VW Bringing New Beetle Dune Concept to Detroit

Modern day Baja Bug ready to rock the North American motor show.
If the name sounds familiar that's because VW has used it before. The Beetle Dune first appeared as a design study at the turn of the millennium, and is set to return next week at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. With fresh inspiration, the new Beetle Dune concept's roots lie in the Baja Bug of the Sixties. It sports crossover styling with flared wheel arches fitted with black moldings, side sills with protective plates, modified bumpers and new alloys wrapped in chunky rubber.

Inside, a bright yellow-accented cabin sports a grab handle instead of a glove box, while power comes from the current Beetle's and new GTI's 210-hp turbo-four mated to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch. The Beetle Dune Concept remains a study for now, but with a decent reception it could be ready for production by 2015.
