Team Galag Bringing McLaren P1 to Gumball 3000

From Miami to Ibiza, this year’s Gumaball 3000 is going to be nuts.

Last year, team Galag rode a custom coachbuilt Nissan GT-R and a Batman Tumbler at Gumball 3000, winning the coveted Spirit of Gumball award in the process. So how do you top that? As well as bringing a new and improved version of the Tumbler back, the Saudi team will be bringing a matte grey McLaren P1, a Range Rover Vogue and a Shelby Daytona. Only six of these classics were built, so we’d be amazed if this is an original.

More likely the team has gotten hold of a replica. Anyway, this year’s route sounds like that of a cocaine infused Led Zepplin tour from the 70's that becomes the stuff of legend. After kicking off in Miami’s South Beach in June, 100 awesome cars will drive to Atlanta and New York before flying over to Edinburgh, Scotland. The supercar convoy will then head to London and Barcelona before ending in Ibiza. Entry is £40,000 per vehicle containing two people. Or chump change as the guys involved call it.

VW Bringing New Beetle Dune Concept to Detroit

Modern day Baja Bug ready to rock the North American motor show.
If the name sounds familiar that's because VW has used it before. The Beetle Dune first appeared as a design study at the turn of the millennium, and is set to return next week at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. With fresh inspiration, the new Beetle Dune concept's roots lie in the Baja Bug of the Sixties. It sports crossover styling with flared wheel arches fitted with black moldings, side sills with protective plates, modified bumpers and new alloys wrapped in chunky rubber.

Inside, a bright yellow-accented cabin sports a grab handle instead of a glove box, while power comes from the current Beetle's and new GTI's 210-hp turbo-four mated to a six-speed DSG dual-clutch. The Beetle Dune Concept remains a study for now, but with a decent reception it could be ready for production by 2015.

Bentley SUV will be a Plug-In Hybrid

Don't worry, a regular gasoline-engined version will arrive first.
Bentley is very keen to launch an uber luxurious SUV in the very near future. This segment is just far too lucrative to miss out on. After the mixed response of the EXP 9F concept at Geneva in 2012, Bentley sent its designers back to the drawing boards to make some necessary changes. Last summer, Bentley confirmed the SUV had been given the production green light. Expected to launch in 2015, a new report claims this Bentley SUV will also be offered as a plug-in hybrid.

Although this variant won’t debut until about a year after the gasoline engine version, word is the hybrid tech will find its way into the rest of Bentley’s lineup not long afterwards. Bentley’s Chairman and Chief Exec, Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber, stated that "the SUV will be the first Bentley hybrid because it’s based on a new platform with new technology. We will see hybrid versions of all of our cars, though." This plug-in SUV will also borrow technology found in the Porsche Panamera Hybrid. Schreiber confirmed there won’t be another Bentley SUV concept before the production version debuts, which is expected to happen next year.

McLovin: 1,000HP McLaren P1 by GSC

German tuner hopes new exhaust and aero body kit will entice the P1's 375 owners.
Gemballa was the first to reveal new aftermarket parts for the McLaren P1 in the form of a new set of alloys, but German Special Customs gets the crown for creating the first comprehensive styling and performance upgrade for the British hypercar. McLaren only made 375 P1s, so that’s the number of GSC’s potential customers. The tuner is hoping to get their business by offering an in-house exhaust with two round fighter-jet style 100 mm pipes that helps boost output from 903 to over 1,000 hp.
